Some games ask you to win a race or defeat a final boss. Bitlife asks a different question: what kind of life will you make? It’s a text-based life simulation where you guide a character from birth onward, making decisions about school, work, relationships, and everything in between. A playthrough can be thoughtful, chaotic, or a bit of both. That freedom makes it an easy game to return to when you have a few spare minutes and want to see where a new story goes.
Gameplay
Each life begins with a new character and a starting set of circumstances. You move forward one year at a time, reading updates and choosing what to do along the way. As your character grows up, more options open up. You might study hard, spend time with family, make friends, apply for jobs, or save money for something you want.
The interesting part is how small decisions can shape later opportunities. Doing well in school may help with a career goal, while neglecting a relationship might make it harder to repair. Not every event is under your control, either. Surprises are part of the experience, so a plan that looks sensible at age eighteen may need changing at age forty.
There’s no need to treat every life as a quest for the highest salary or the longest lifespan. You could try to build a stable, happy household in one playthrough, then create a character who takes every risky opportunity in the next. Both approaches can lead to memorable stories.
Tips for Your First Few Lives
Choose a loose goal. It helps to have a direction, such as becoming an artist, raising a family, or seeing how far you can get with very little money. Keep the goal flexible, though. Unexpected events are often the most entertaining part of the game.
Check in on the basics. Health, happiness, finances, and relationships can be easy to overlook while you focus on one ambition. Paying attention to them gives your character more room to handle setbacks.
Read before you tap. Some choices have consequences that aren’t obvious at first glance. Taking a moment to consider an option can make the outcome feel more connected to your decisions—even when things don’t go as planned.
Try a different personality next time. If you usually make careful choices, play a more impulsive character. If you always chase a prestigious career, choose a quieter path instead. Changing your approach is a simple way to keep new lives feeling fresh.
Conclusion
BitLife is most enjoyable when you let it be a story rather than a checklist. Make a plan, follow a few whims, and see how your character responds when life interrupts. Whether the result is a success, a disaster, or something in between, you’ll have a story that came from your choices—and a reason to wonder what might happen differently next time.
